Elland Road can reopen, West Yorkshire Police have informed Leeds. This is coming following the arrest of a 20-year-old male on Saturday in response to a security menace.

Leeds got a threat via social media. And this forced the stadium to close on Friday. While police checked the area and evacuated the stadium, its offices, and the club store.

On Sunday morning the club statement read as reported by Daily Mail: ‘West Yorkshire Police have advised Leeds that Elland Road can reopen, effective immediately. We apologise for any inconvenience and we thank the public for their support.’

The authorities were given a distress call on Friday to attend Elland Road ‘following reports of a security threat to the premises’.

Police said on Saturday a 20-year-old male had been arrested ‘in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing’.

Sportsmail gathered the threat was made by a social media user and reported to the authorities on Thursday night.

Officers went to Elland Road on Friday morning to determine whether the area was secure. Before opening an inquiry to ‘establish the credibility of the threat.’

What Did The Police Say About The Threat?

West Yorkshire Police said in a statement: ‘Police were called to attend Elland Road football stadium following reports of a security threat to the premises. The report was received at 9.49pm on Thursday night.’

Leeds earlier on Friday said: ‘Leeds United’s offices, ticket office, Foundation offices and club shop at Elland Road will be closed until further notice on the advice of the police.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience and we will inform the public when normal service resumes.’

For the remainder of the day and on Saturday, Elland Road was closed. Leeds’ next home league game is against Nottingham Forest on April 4.
