Atletico Madrid Monitoring Chelsea’s €35 Million Defender

The transfer market has been open for quite some time, and Chelsea has already signed three players in the form of Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, and Joao Pedro. However, the team is still looking for a reliable centre-back ahead of the new season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has recently transferred players the opposite way around. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Noni Madueke have joined Chelsea’s local rivals Arsenal. Bournemouth and Strasbourg have signed Djordje Petrovic and Mathis Amougou, respectively. Now it appears that another player will be added to this list soon. Renato Veiga is expected to quit the club, according to earlier reports.

According to sources, a Spanish behemoth is interested in the player. Florian Plettenberg just tweeted on X that Veiga is on the Atletico Madrid shortlist.

Despite having more choices, Atletico is keeping an eye on Veiga’s position. The 21-year-old versatile defender might leave Chelsea if a fair deal comes in. The transfer value is €30-35 million. Many inquiries have also been made, and his contract extends until 2031.

Chelsea defender, joined the club from FC Basel in 2024 for approximately £12 million. The 21-year-old defender made 18 appearances for the Blues in the first half of the season. Later, he was loaned out to Juventus in the second half, where he quickly established himself as a starter.

Veiga does not appear to be in Enzo Maresca’s long-term plans at Chelsea. As a result, the club is seeking a new home for the Portuguese international.

The departure of Veiga could help Chelsea fund their search for a new centre-back. However, the Portuguese defender is not the only one set to go this summer; Axel Disasi and potentially Trevoh Chalobah may also be transferred to new clubs. Overall, it’s reasonable to say that the Blues’ backline will look different next season.
