Ashley Cole released by LA Galaxy after almost two years at club

Left back Ashley Cole has been released by Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy.

On Monday, LA Galaxy confirmed they have declined to exercise an option to re-sign the 37-year-old defender.

Cole signed for the club back in January 2016 and at the start of the 2018 campaign, the former Arsenal and Chelsea man was named captain.

And at the beginning of November, Cole was voted Player of the Year by the club’s supporters.

However, just under a month on, Cole’s time with the Los Angeles outfit has come to an end and at the age of 37, he will now be weighing up his next career move or whether to retire.

Cole has enjoyed a stellar career within football since making his senior debut for Arsenal back in 1999.

During his time with Arsenal and Chelsea, the former England international won three Premier League titles, one Champions League, one Europa League and seven FA Cups.

But it’s not just within club football where he has made a name for himself.

He also earned 107 caps for England during the years of 2001 and 2014, making him the sixth most-capped England international in history.
