Arteta refuses to celebrate Man City winner against Arsenal

Arsenal are still very much in Mikel Arteta’s heart judging by his muted reaction to Manchester City’s winning goal on Sunday.

The Spaniard left the Gunners after five years at the club to take up a role
on Pep Guardiola’s coaching team at City.

Arsenal took an early lead through Theo Walcott but a poor second-half display led to City securing victory following goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling.

But amid the celebrations for Sterling’s winner, Arteta was glued to City’s bench while Guardiola and the rest of his backroom team were on their feet in jubilation.

Arteta made his final appearance for Arsenal in May and left the pitch in tears as he was given a standing ovation from fans.

Following his exit, Arteta penned an open letter thanking Arsenal for their support during his time at the club.

‘I’ve enjoyed an amazing five years at Arsenal and it’s been an honour and a privilege to captain such a great club,’ he wrote.

‘I would like to personally thank the manager, board, all of my teammates and of course the fans for the fantastic support I’ve received during my time there.’
