Arsene Wenger Tells Mikel Arteta Where Arsenal Went Wrong In Turning Point In Title Race

Arsenal and Manchester City’s goalless draw has been identified by Arsene Wenger as the crucial turning moment in the title fight.

During his 22-year tenure as the team’s manager, Wenger guided the Gunners to three Premier League championships. Under Mikel Arteta, they are vying for the league title once more after coming dangerously close to winning it the previous year.

They were leading going into last weekend, but Pep Guardiola’s team has taken the lead in the race after losing to Aston Villa and crushing Luton. However, Wenger does not think Arsenal’s loss to Villa marked the beginning of their decline.

Rather, he thinks that the goalless draw that occurred at the Etihad Stadium at the end of March will be significant. He bemoaned the lack of audacity on the part of Arteta’s soldiers and insisted that victory was possible.

“It was a complete surprise,” Wenger told beIN Sports when asked about the Villa defeat. “You know that when you play for the championship at home with eight games to go and you have the opportunity to make a difference, you have to take it.

“The surprise of the weekend is that City have their nose in front again. Nobody expected that. Of course, one could have a bad result but not the two and that is surprising. Arsenal still have an advantage with their goal difference.

“So even if City have a draw and we win, we’d be in front of them. The frustration was a bit on the day [they drew at City]. You didn’t know after the game. OK it was a good point and a well-fought point because City didn’t create much.
