Arsenal close in on £33million deal for Granit Xhaka

Arsene Wenger hopes to kick off his summer spending this week to bring a feel good factor back to the Emirates, according to the Mirror.

The Arsenal boss is hopeful of completing a £33.8million deal for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.

Xhaka is Arsenal’s top midfield target and they are understood to have agreed a deal in principle and hope to announce it well before the Euros.

That would be a major lift for Arsenal on the back of a disappointing campaign at the Emirates.

Swiss midfielder Xhaka expects negotiations to be completed within the next few days.

He said: “The season’s over now and there might be discussions tomorrow regarding the matter, we will make it together. The decision will definitely be before the European Championship.

“I’m the wrong person to be asked [about a possible move], you might need to check that with [sporting director] Max Eberl.”

Wenger is also after a striker with Juventus front man Alvaro Morata top of his list while he wants a centre half.
