As the defender enjoys his longest rest in years, Harry Maguire has disclosed that Manchester United is closely monitoring players’ fitness levels with comprehensive training programs and GPS tracking. Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup team unexpectedly left out Maguire.
At the time, Maguire used social media to express his disappointment without trying to hide it. “I was confident I could have played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had,” he said.
“The decision has left me stunned and devastated. Over the years, wearing that jersey and supporting my nation has been my favorite thing to do. I hope the players have an amazing summer.

After missing Euro 2024 due to a calf ailment, the 33-year-old missed a major event for the second time in a row. He was a reliable member of United’s starting lineup throughout the previous season when he was available and healthy.
In addition to providing each player with a GPS tracker that transmits data back to the team, United has ensured that players who are not participating in international competition adhere to a set program to maintain their fitness levels.
The second week of July is when players are expected to arrive for preseason training, according to Maguire. The defender will have the longest layoff of his career since making his debut for England.
Maguire talked on what he called a “unusual” off-season on The Rest Is Football podcast, which is being produced in New York.
“We are back in I think Wednesday – the 9th [of July],” he replied. “Since my England debut, this is the longest [break] I’ve had. It has been pleasant, but it has also been peculiar.
