Morocco captain, Achraf Hakimi is reportedly set to be on trial for allegedly raping a woman he met online, however, he will still be permitted to play against Scotland.

The 27-year-old Hakimi played for the Atlas Lions in their 1-1 draw with Brazil and is anticipated to play again on Friday night against Scotland in his position as captain. However, if found guilty, he could spend up to 15 years in prison.

Hakimi Comments On The Confirmation Of The Trial

Speaking about the trial being confirmed by a French judge, he said: “I’ve been waiting for this trial from day one. And now I’m looking forward to it. Finally, I’ll be able to speak.”

According to the Daily Star, Hakimi is accused of raping a woman inside the family home while his wife and kids were on vacation.

The former Real Madrid defender asserts that the woman is attempting to blackmail him and has adamantly denied any involvement.

The Moroccan is now on bail, having already been accused in February 2023. He was placed under judicial supervision and issued a restraining order banning him from contacting the victim.

Fanny Colin, Hakimi’s lawyer, said on Friday: “The multitude of exculpatory elements revealed by the investigation and the judicial inquiry should, in any other case, have led to a dismissal.

“Achraf Hakimi’s defence regrets that the consequences of the contradictions and lies of the plaintiff.”

They added: “Mr. Achraf Hakimi now eagerly awaits his trial so that he can finally speak publicly about the false accusation against him.”
