Zinedine Zidane Announces Long-Awaited Return To Football

Zinedine Zidane has officially confirmed his long-anticipated return to football after three years away from the game.

The French legend, who last managed Real Madrid in 2021, has been absent from coaching since his second spell at the Bernabeu ended following a trophyless season, reports Sports Bible.

During his time away, Zidane was linked with several high-profile jobs — including the French national team and the United States men’s team — but opted to stay on the sidelines.

Now, the 53-year-old is set for a comeback in a different capacity, returning to his hometown of Marseille for a special event with Universe Football at the Orange Vélodrome.

Zidane Set for Marseille Homecoming

According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, Zidane will headline a “special family project” — believed to be the third edition of a star-studded charity match organized by Universe Football.

Previous editions have featured former stars such as Franck Ribéry, Samir Nasri, and Djibril Cissé, as well as Zidane’s sons, Luca, Théo, and Elyaz.

While not a managerial return, the event will mark Zidane’s first official football involvement since 2021.

For the Marseille-born icon, playing again at the Vélodrome carries deep emotional meaning.

“I used to come to the stadium as a kid,” Zidane once said. “I saw my idols play there — I’ve always been passionate about Marseille.”

Fans eagerly await further announcements about Zidane’s long-awaited return to the pitch.
