Xabi Alonso Exit Bayer Leverkusen, Joins Real Madrid

Xabi Alonso has declared his intention to leave the team at the end of the current campaign after managing Bayer Leverkusen for two and a half years.

It is thought that Alonso will soon succeed Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid’s manager, reports Football Espana.

Following allegations on Friday morning that Alonso had told his players the open secret prior to their training session, the Basque manager announced his departure from the team after 2.5 incredibly successful years.

He did not, however, confirm a move to Los Blancos.

“The club and I have agreed that these are my last two games in charge of the team. I’m not going to say anything about the next team yet. We have a couple of games left and a season to go.

Then it’ll be time to talk about that. After the last game against Mainz.

When we’ve done our work, it’ll be time to talk about my future,” he said.

“In football, everything is about moments. Choosing the right moment to change is the hardest part. Last year, I felt I had to continue; this year, I don’t.”

Alonso was said to have signed a contract with Real Madrid to join the team just hours prior. He will bring two of his employees with him when he signs a three-year contract.
