Barcelona star Raphinha explained why he declined a move to Chelsea three years ago prior to his team’s journey to Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian, who Transfermarkt values at €90 million (£79 million), moved from Leeds United to Barcelona in 2022 after the Catalan team paid £55 million for the winger.
Since joining La Liga, Raphinha has excelled, helping Barca win the Copa del Rey and two Spanish top-flight titles.
The 28-year-old was named La Liga Player of the Season last campaign and was described by Barcelona manager Hansi Flick as ‘very important’ and a ‘leader.’

However, Raphinha’s situation could have been drastically different. While he was at Leeds, Chelsea made him an offer, which he turned down.
Prior to Chelsea’s Champions League match against Barca, Raphinha gave an explanation on why the west London team were passed over.
“Ever since my last match with Leeds, I knew there was a chance to wear the Barcelona shirt,” Raphinha said as quoted by The Metro.
“I also knew Chelsea were interested, but I had a dream needed to fulfil, and gave 100 per cent to make it happen.
“I shut my eyes to the other clubs that wanted me. Had a dream, and did everything I could to play for Barcelona.”
Raphinha returned on Saturday after missing two months due to a hamstring injury.
To date, Raphinha has scored 57 goals and provided 53 assists for Barcelona in 152 games across all competitions.
