Vinícius Júnior’s long-stalled contract renewal talks with Real Madrid have gained fresh momentum following the departure of head coach Xabi Alonso.
The Brazilian forward, whose current deal runs until June 2027, has been locked in difficult negotiations with the club since May 2025.
Those talks had effectively reached a standstill, with Alonso viewed internally as a major obstacle to any agreement being reached.
One source described the chances of renewal as “non-existent” had the Spaniard remained in charge.

Alonso left Real Madrid earlier this week after mounting pressure culminated in defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final.
He has been replaced by Álvaro Arbeloa, who has already spoken positively about Vinícius and praised his willingness to play despite rotation elsewhere in the squad.
However, significant hurdles remain. Vinícius currently earns around €17 million net per year, and Madrid’s last formal offer, presented in May, was worth approximately €20 million.
Negotiations collapsed after the player’s camp demanded an additional €10 million in bonuses, a figure the club felt was excessive.
Despite this, Alonso’s exit has altered the landscape. Real Madrid are now expected to reopen talks, with the club potentially exploring bonus-based structures similar to those used in Kylian Mbappé’s contract to bridge the gap.
Tensions between Vinícius and Alonso were evident throughout the season, with the winger frequently substituted and starting fewer matches than under Carlo Ancelotti, reports ESPN.
Their fractured relationship was widely seen as damaging both the player’s form and the likelihood of a renewal.
With Alonso gone, Real Madrid believe a breakthrough is now possible—provided financial demands can be aligned.
