Vinícius Jr And Mbappé Targeted With Racist Abuse During Real Madrid Win

Real Madrid’s 3-0 triumph over Real Oviedo was overshadowed by disturbing racist abuse aimed at Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé.

The Brazilian forward faced jeers after being booked for simulation, while Oviedo fans mocked him with beach balls referencing his Ballon d’Or snub.

The abuse escalated when monkey chants were directed at both stars, captured clearly in footage released by Movistar+ during the match.

Mbappé was targeted after his opening goal in the 37th minute, and Vinícius faced similar chants upon coming on in the 63rd minute.

The pair celebrated Madrid’s third goal amid the offensive chants, highlighting the resilience of the players under a hostile atmosphere.

Oviedo Activates Anti-Racism Protocol

Oviedo immediately announced that the anti-racism protocol had been triggered, though it remains unclear if the referee officially noted the incidents in his match report.

Club president Martín Peláez condemned the behaviour, promising a full investigation and punishment for those responsible if confirmed.

La Liga’s weekly complaint to the RFEF Competition Committee and Anti-Violence Commission did not initially include the racist chants, despite other offensive incidents reported.

Managing Madrid says Movistar+ revealed the abuse, prompting La Liga to request the footage for a follow-up report to ensure accountability.

Sadly, this follows a pattern, with Vinícius having faced repeated racial abuse in recent years, including incidents earlier this season and last May’s bridge effigy case.
