Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk reportedly claimed Alexander Isak is one of the toughest players he has faced as the Reds continue to chase the Newcastle United forward.
The Swede has stated that he will never again play for St. James’ Park and is trying to push his way out. Given how important Isak has been to the Magpies’ recent success, that would be a serious setback.
Last year, he scored against Van Dijk and Liverpool to help Newcastle win the Carabao Cup, their first domestic trophy in seven decades.
Isak has scored four goals against the Merseysiders in six games, including a 3-3 Premier League draw with the Reds.

According to The Mirror, when asked about the most difficult forwards he has faced in the Premier League, Van Dijk acknowledged that quality. He placed the Swede in the top bracket, though it’s unclear if he was intentionally complimenting Isak.
He told Cecil Thomas on a TikTok live stream: “[Erling] Haaland, Isak, [Ollie] Watkins, Harry Kane.
Speaking about the last couple of years in the Premier League, there are plenty. Everybody has a different challenge so I respect everyone playing in the Premier League because it’s the hardest league in the world.”
After a fantastic season for Newcastle, Isak was selected for the Premier League Team of the Year by his peers, even though he was not present at the PFA Awards in Manchester.
Isak Released Statement About His Situation
He was outscored only by Mohamed Salah, but the Swede used Tuesday night as a chance to speak up.
The striker said: “I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.”
