Two Factors That Are Stalling Barcelona Attacker’s Move To AS Monaco

Earlier this summer, it was claimed that AS Monaco is keen to sign Ansu Fati for next season.

The French club is interested in the Barcelona exile, who has battled to establish himself as a regular first-team player under Hansi Flick.

However, the transfer looks to have stagnated recently, since Barcelona has failed to reach an agreement with since Monaco on the player’s departure.

Two elements shaping the Fati deal

According to a recent Diario SPORT story, Fati’s move to Monaco is being held up for two reasons.

The first point of issue concerns the transfer formula. Barcelona and Monaco have still to decide if the transfer would be a permanent sell or a loan with a buy option.

Monaco is apparently seeking for a loan to study Fati’s form and fitness throughout the season before making a long-term investment.

Barcelona, on the other hand, is more likely to negotiate a clean sale, particularly as they try to reduce their salary bill and generate funds for new recruits.

This comes shortly after news that Barcelona turned down AS Monaco’s original offer for Ansu Fati.

The second problem is the valuation of the purchase clause. If the contract is structured as a loan with a buy option, both clubs must still agree on the final fee.

Barcelona is looking to incorporate a clause worth around €15 million, but Monaco has not yet agreed to that amount. Negotiations are ongoing, but the valuation disparity is impeding the final stages of the transaction.

Ansu Fati is likely to return from his trip next week, with Barcelona facing a tight deadline to complete the trade before the end of the month.
