The authenticity of a widely shared video purporting to capture a fight at Old Trafford during Manchester United’s defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion has been exposed.
On Sunday, January 11, the Red Devils lost 2-1 to Brighton at home in the FA Cup third round. A video that appeared to show a bunch of men fighting in the stands has received over 600,000 views on X.
It claimed that the video was shot during Sunday’s game, but it mistakenly claimed that United had lost 2-0.
The caption stated: “Man United fans at Old Trafford fighting each other today after losing 2-0 against Brighton.” United in fact scored a late goal as they pushed for an equaliser before crashing out of the cup.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the footage appeared to show a man reaching over the barrier and aiming at another fan in the stands while wearing a red-branded jersey and bucket hat.
Another person steps in and pushes the two back as the fight intensifies and spreads farther into the stand. While others try to break up the turmoil, a steward can be seen desperately beckoning for help as one fan falls to the ground.

The Footage Is Not A Recent One
The identical video had also been shared on the social media platform on December 17, following an investigation.
United confirmed that the footage was indeed taken earlier in the season, despite rumours that it might have been taken during a game against Chelsea last year.
Despite extensive circulation on social media, the club affirmed that the matter has now been rectified and reiterated that it did not happen during the defeat to Brighton.
