Scaloni Confirms No Risks For Messi As Argentina Prepare For October Friendlies

Lionel Scaloni has confirmed Argentina will not take any risks with Lionel Messi during their October friendlies against Venezuela and Puerto Rico.

Messi, 38, has endured a grueling schedule with Inter Miami, featuring in seven games in just 21 days — scoring five goals and providing six assists.

The Argentine captain is doubtful for Saturday’s clash with Venezuela, which falls just a day before Inter Miami’s crucial MLS fixture against Atlanta United.

Scaloni Focused On Player Welfare

“We will take a decision and see how he and the rest of the players are,” the Argentina boss said. “These are friendly matches — we are not going to take any risks whatsoever.”

Scaloni added that Argentina’s coaching staff will hold talks with Messi before making a final call on his involvement.

Testing New Talent

The 2022 World Cup-winning coach also confirmed plans to give fresh faces a chance to impress, reports Goal.

“Naturally, we are going to try new players,” Scaloni said. “Every international match, official or friendly, is a unique opportunity to evaluate options for the future.”

Messi, meanwhile, remains non-committal about his participation in the 2026 World Cup, stating that his decision will depend on his physical condition in the lead-up to the tournament.
