Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim may spark controversy by considering the sale of Kobbie Mainoo.
Reports suggest a £45 million exit is on the table, with the academy graduate seen as pure profit under PSR rules.

While the move would aid United’s finances, it could end a once-promising Old Trafford career far too soon.
Mainoo was a breakout star in the 2023/24 season under Erik ten Hag, helping United lift the FA Cup.
His impressive form even earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024, where he played every knockout game as the Three Lions reached the final.
Ferguson’s Warning On Young Talent
Sir Alex Ferguson himself praised Mainoo ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, stressing the importance of developing academy stars.
Speaking about Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, Ferguson highlighted the club’s tradition of trusting fearless young players.
However, the 20-year-old’s progress has since slowed under Amorim. Injury setbacks and lack of consistent game time have stalled his rise.
This season, he has featured only sparingly, starting in United’s Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town, reports Mirror.
Although Amorim has spoken positively about his talent, Mainoo’s future looks uncertain as contract talks drag on.
Up to 10 clubs, including Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Napoli, and Newcastle, are circling with interest.
If a sale goes through, it could frustrate fans and defy the values Ferguson believes are at the heart of Manchester United.
