Despite Portugal’s win over Spain in the final, Ronaldo chose to highlight Yamal’s brilliance and call for patience with the 17-year-old.
“He’s a phenomenon,” Ronaldo said. “At 17, he’s already displaying world-class ability. He’ll win many titles—individually and with his teams.”
Yet, he cautioned fans and media alike: “We have to leave him alone. He has a long career ahead, let him grow naturally.”
The former Real Madrid icon’s comments struck a chord, especially coming from someone who knows the pressure of early stardom.
Yamal, often hailed as Barcelona’s future, impressed again during the final, even in defeat, showcasing why the club has faith in him, reports Barca Universal.
Ronaldo also backed Spain manager Luis de la Fuente’s decision to substitute Yamal during extra time—a move that caused debate.
“I’m not a coach, but I trust him,” Ronaldo stated. “If he made that choice, it was to help his team.”
His words reflect deep respect for both Yamal and the Spanish setup, transcending traditional club rivalries for the sake of player development.
