Rio Ferdinand wants Manchester United to employ Roberto De Zerbi as their next permanent manager, following reports that the former Brighton manager held covert talks with the Premier League juggernaut.
Ferdinand’s former teammate, Michael Carrick, was named temporary manager on Tuesday and will take over for the duration of the season. However, the 2008 Champions League winner faces a difficult assignment in convincing the board that he is the right man for the job in the long run.
Ferdinand, on the other hand, believes that De Zerbi is the best candidate to permanently replace Ruben Amorim. It was rumored that De Zerbi turned down an offer from United before choosing his current position at Marseille, but Old Trafford icon Ferdinand believes he may still be a suitable fit.
