Real Madrid Still Admire PSG Star Amid Ruling Out His Signing In 2020

Real Madrid are reportedly still thinking highly of Paris Saint-Germain defender, Nuno Mendes after rejecting the chance of signing him in 2020.

The left-back, 23, is a UEFA Nations League champion with the Portuguese national team and a treble winner with PSG.

After reaching the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals, the defender is now aiming for another trophy with PSG, where he is scheduled to play against Real Madrid.

Los Blancos were really interested in signing Mendes back in 2020, but the Covid epidemic put a stop to a deal, according to MARCA as cited by Madrid Universal.

A lot of clubs have to reconsider their plans in 2020. Real Madrid closed the door on new players while discussing pay cuts with executives and players.

The club’s finances were stabilized throughout the epidemic thanks to these efforts, but they also delayed or abandoned Mendes and numerous other ongoing operations.

At the time, the young player was still at Sporting CP, and Real Madrid and a number of other elite teams were keeping close tabs on him.

At the Santiago Bernabeu, the left-back position had been designated as a priority, and Mendes was the most promising prospect.

According to internal reports, he may be a game-changing player and a solution for 10 years.

But that summer, the prospect of signing the 23-year-old fell through. No transfers during a time when clubs’ earnings had fallen was the evident option.

The report claims that Mendes’ performance is clearly admired at Real Madrid. In Valdebebas, they acknowledge his influence with the Portuguese national team and at PSG.

The 23-year-old has now been given the room and structure he needs to develop into a top-tier player at PSG by Luis Enrique.
