Franco Mastantuono has admitted Lamine Yamal is currently ahead of him but reminded the Barcelona star he is still new in Europe.
The Real Madrid teenager has impressed since arriving from River Plate, though his progress has been slowed by a difficult pubalgia injury recently.
Mastantuono joined Madrid in a €45 million move this summer and quickly earned minutes under Xabi Alonso due to his smart movement.
However, signs of pubalgia have limited his rhythm, forcing the 18-year-old attacker to step back and focus on a full recovery period.
He revealed the injury began earlier this year and gradually worsened, making it impossible to keep competing at his usual explosive level.

Speaking on Cadena SER, Mastantuono said he is improving daily and expects to return soon once the pain finally settles completely.
The forward stressed Madrid demand full fitness and explained he needed time to heal properly so he can perform at his peak.
Mastantuono Discusses Yamal Rivalry and Their Growing Clasico Spotlight
Mastantuono also addressed constant comparisons with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal, who has been one of LaLiga’s standout young players this season.
He admitted Yamal is currently performing at a higher level but insisted he has only just arrived and is still adapting.
The Madrid youngster said having rivals like Yamal motivates him, and he expects their battles to define future El Clasico meetings.
Mastantuono said he hopes their rivalry continues for many years and pushes both teenagers to even greater football heights.
He added Yamal’s fast rise is impressive but believes he will soon reach his own top level with more European experience, reports Goal.
Madrid remain cautious with his recovery, planning a potential return in late December if progress continues steadily without any setbacks occurring.
The club believes patience is crucial as pubalgia can return suddenly if players rush their rehabilitation or increase intensity too quickly.
