Real Madrid Set To Appeal La Liga’s Refusal To Postpone Osasuna Clash

Real Madrid are preparing to file a formal appeal after the Spanish Football Federation’s single competition judge denied their plea to postpone their opening La Liga match against Osasuna.

According to COPE report, the club is dissatisfied with the decision and intends to raise the matter to the Second Degree National Committee.

The argument arose from a promise made in May.

During a meeting with La Liga and the AFE (Spanish Footballers’ Association), team leaders were guaranteed that any club that reached the Club World Cup semifinals would be permitted to postpone their first league match.

Real Madrid, having advanced so far in the competition, expected this promise to be fulfilled.

Madrid believe FIFA criteria were ignored.

The solitary competition judge, however, dismissed Real Madrid’s plea, ruling that there were no “compelling reasons” to change the match date.

The judgment was based on current standards, which require players to take at least a 21-day sabbatical, as specified in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. From the judge’s perspective, the rules were followed and the required rest period was observed.

But Real Madrid believes this argument is incorrect. They believe that FIFA’s official guidance recommends a three to five-week break before preseason begins, particularly for clubs competing in protracted tournaments.

The club interprets this rejection as an unwillingness to prioritise player wellbeing.

Madrid’s dissatisfaction grows as a result of La Liga’s apparent shift of stance. The earlier verbal agreement appears to have been forgotten, and the club believes it has been mislead.

They intend to proceed with the appeal, notwithstanding their lack of confidence in its success. Real Madrid has two days to submit their appeal to the National Appellate Court.
