Real Madrid Ready To Offer ‘Large Signing-On Fee’ To Beat Liverpool To Star Signing

According to Football Insider, Liverpool risks losing Marc Guehi to Real Madrid or Juventus after failing to sign the England defender.

Guehi remains a Crystal Palace player after his deadline-day deal to Anfield fell through at the last minute, with Oliver Glasner personally intervening to ensure his captain did not leave without a replacement.

Liverpool, as I just disclosed in the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, will look to complete Guehi’s deal in January or next summer, but they may now have additional competition.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool is in “open dialogue” with Guehi ahead of potentially resuming their chase in the January window, and they will hope he has already turned his head.

However, my sources have told me that Real Madrid and Juventus are interested in Guehi and may launch their own bids to recruit him next summer, given their great track records with free agents.

Liverpool hopes that the groundwork they’ve already made for Guehi will lead to his arrival at Anfield, but Madrid’s interest in particular might see them pay Crystal Palace’s £25 million asking price and expedite the transfer.

Liverpool will launch a new Guehi bid amid Real Madrid interest.

On Saturday, Football Insider stated that Liverpool hoped to “save a lot of money” on Guehi by waiting until next summer to buy him, but Real Madrid’s entry into the contest may change their mind.

“We know how good Real Madrid and Juventus are at signing free agents,” I stated on the latest Inside Track podcast.

“They concentrate in trying to sign players on free transfers, usually with a large signing-on fee.

“Obviously, it’s difficult to compete with clubs like Real Madrid in terms of signing [under-contract] players.

“Liverpool have now done so much effort on Guehi that they will be hoping that, despite missing out at the last minute in this window, they can eventually close the deal.

“[That will] either be in January if the situation arises, or on a free transfer next summer.”
