Real Madrid Open To Selling Forward After Losing Starting Spot

Real Madrid are reportedly open to a possible departure of Rodrygo Goes following the Brazilian’s dip in form which is looking likely to be a catalyst to lose his starting spot.

Rodrygo, who was formerly seen as indispensable by current Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, has steadily lost his position, and his stock has been dropping, especially in recent weeks.

The Copa del Rey final at La Cartuja was the tipping point. After starting the game, Rodrygo was replaced at halftime by an unfit Mbappe, who momentarily altered the course of the encounter.

The ruling highlighted a more general pattern, Rodrygo had only scored once in his previous 21 games.

The Brazil international missed the game against Celta Vigo due to illness following the final, Guler, his replacement appears to have already secured his place in the starting lineup.

Given that Mbappe, Vinicius, and Bellingham are guaranteed starters, Guler’s recent performances—especially the balance and efficacy he provides when used in midfield—make it even more difficult for the Brazilian to recover a starting position.

The 24-year-old’s predicament is now a strategic one for the team and the player, not just a matter of form. According to AS, Madrid have identified Rodrygo as a potentially sellable asset.

Along with Militao and Vinícius, he signed a contract extension until 2028, but given his current market value—which Transfermarkt estimates at €100 million—this summer might be the perfect time to sell.

However, that valuation has already decreased by €10 million from the beginning of the season, and it might drop even more by the time of its next post-season update.
