According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez no longer considers David Alaba’s influence on the pitch to be commensurate with his costly deal.
The Austrian defender is one of the club’s highest-paid players, but his role in the team appears to be shrinking even further in the 2025/26 season.
Perez believes that this position is unsustainable, especially since Real Madrid is focusing on revitalizing their defense with younger, long-term possibilities.
Under Xabi Alonso, Alaba is anticipated to play a minor role. The squad already has good defensive options, reducing the need to rely significantly on the 33-year-old.
Even if his physical condition has improved, the club isn’t as optimistic. Real Madrid’s board is uncertain about his future at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Open the door for possible exit.
Real Madrid’s attitude is clear while they understand Alaba does not want to leave and wishes to complete his contract, which runs until 2026, they will not prevent him from leaving if a significant offer comes in.

The club has already notified his agent that if a deal comes in within the next two weeks, they are prepared to facilitate the transfer.
Saudi Arabian clubs are seen as the most likely candidates, with the ability to offer double or perhaps triple Alaba’s present wage.
For Real Madrid, such a move would reduce their pay bill while allowing them to invest more in younger defenders. However, all indicators point to Alaba’s desire to stay, even if it means playing a smaller role in Alonso’s plans.
Unless he changes his mind, the defender appears determined to finish his contract before departing the Merengue in June 2026.
For the time being, Alaba’s future remains one of the most delicate issues that Perez and the Madrid board will have to address this season.
