Rodrigo Mendoza of Elche has emerged as one of La Liga’s breakout stars this season, with the 20-year-old creative midfielder having an impressive debut in the Spanish top flight.
Real Madrid has had their eye on the teenager since last summer, and their interest has only grown since, with manager Xabi Alonso believed to be pressing the club to capture the Spanish gem.

However according to Sam Dean of The Telegraph, Arsenal is also studying Rodrigo Mendoza and considering a deal for the Elche midfielder.
The 20-year-old youngster has appeared in eleven games in all competitions this season, scoring two goals, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Arsenal are aiming to future-proof their squad, thus they are considering signing the Elche ace, who has a €20 million release clause in his contract.
The report goes on to highlight that Real Madrid are long-term admirers of Mendoza, who has been likened to Barcelona superstar Pedri in some circles.

As a result, the Merengues and Gunners may face a future war for the Spanish U-21 international’s services.
Apart from Real Madrid and Arsenal, Premier League heavyweights Manchester City are also interested in the teenage midfielder, with Pep Guardiola a fan. Juventus, too, is interested in the Spaniard.
As things stand, Mendoza’s January exit is doubtful, but the chance of a July departure looms huge, with a major transfer on the horizon.
