Real Madrid Eye Move For Borussia Dortmund’s Primary Target Closes In On Bayern Renewal

It is no secret that Real Madrid is looking for new centre-backs as they prepare for life without David Alaba and, potentially, Antonio Rudiger.

Real Madrid’s quest for a new centre-back has been aided by a triple injury blow against Atletico Madrid, in which Rudiger and Raul Asencio also sustained injuries.

Real Madrid has been linked with a bid for Dayot Upamecano to strengthen their defensive ranks for next season. However, it looks that the player is close to renewing his contract with Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid considering move for Schlotterbeck

With Upamecano no longer an option, Real Madrid has identified Nico Schlotterbeck as their primary defensive target for next season.

According to SportBILD (via Diario AS), the Dortmund star has emerged as the ideal choice for Upamecano.

Schlotterbeck, regarded as one of the greatest defenders in the Bundesliga, may not become a free agent like Upamecano next summer, but he may be available in the market, as his contract with Dortmund expires in 2027.

The German international has shown no signs of renewing his contract, which means he might be available for a low-cost deal next summer.

Earlier estimates suggested a price tag of €50 million, which may prove to be a steal for a player of his talent.

Schlotterbeck, known for his build-up play skill and adaptability, might be a good fit for Real Madrid. His leadership, combined with his position as a left-footed centre-back, makes him an ideal fit for Eder Militao.

However, Real Madrid could face heavy competition from clubs like Barcelona in the hunt to sign Schlotterbeck. So it will be interesting to watch what the future holds for the German team this summer.
