Although the 17-year-old Argentine midfielder had been a target for the team for a while, recent events have caused the Spanish powerhouses to permanently cut ties with him.
Madrid believes Mastantuono and his team took advantage of them, according to a SPORT article.
Last summer, the club had serious plans to sign him, but it seems the player’s camp took advantage of their interest to bargain with River Plate for a better deal.
When Mastantuono’s contract with River Plate ended last year, Real Madrid promptly contacted his agents.
According to reports, the talks went well, and a move appeared possible.
However, Mastantuono decided to extend his agreement with River just when it appeared like they were getting close.
His price was raised considerably by the €45 million release clause in the new contract.
They thought Augusto Fernandez, the player’s agent, had purposefully brought up Madrid during negotiations in an attempt to up the player’s worth, reports Madrid Universal.
Madrid consequently put Mastantuono on a so-called “blacklist” of players they no longer consider signing in addition to ending their pursuit.
