Rayan Cherki appeared to indicate that he will soon join Manchester City and said that his move from Lyon is “getting done”.
The 21-year-old, who was constantly linked with a move to Liverpool last season, has apparently signed personal terms with the Reds’ opponents, but City and Lyon are still far apart in their assessments of the player.
Cherki is scheduled to join City in time for the Club World Cup, which means the deal must be completed by next Tuesday. Speaking on Thursday, the Frenchman appeared to guarantee that would not be an issue.
“Yes… it’s getting done,” he told FootMercato after France beat Spain 5-4 in a pulsating Nations League semi-final.

“But you already know my answer, everybody knows. But there’s still a game to play. Now we have to enjoy and give everything, but after it will be done.” Cherki scored a sublime volley in the latter stages of the Nations League semi-final, as France tried to stage an unlikely comeback. Despite only being introduced in the 63rd minute, the attacker also provided an assist.
Cherki’s debut appearance in the competitive France team highlights his abilities and explains why City moved quickly to complete a signing. Last season, he made 44 appearances for Lyon, scoring 12 goals and 20 assists.
While City appears to be his next destination, The Athletic reports that Arne Slot came to the south of France last week to meet Cherki and negotiate a potential move to Anfield, but the player has now decided to join City.
Pep Guardiola is attempting to rebuild his squad following a terrible season for the serial title winners.
