Former Barcelona midfielder and club icon Ivan Rakitic has reportedly stated that Marc Andre ter-Stegen will always be his preferred choice in goal over newly recruited Joan Garcia.
Garcia was signed by the Blaugrana from RCD Espanyol this summer, and they intend to start him in goal ahead of Ter Stegen, whom they wish to let go.
Even though he is now battling with a back problem that may require surgery, the Germany international is willing to battle for his spot and has no plans to leave the club.
Regarding Rakitic, there is no question in Barcelona’s goalkeeping department; Ter Stegen is without a doubt the number one.

“I spoke to him and he seemed very excited and happy. I hope his injury isn’t serious and he can return soon,” Rakitic began in an interview with COPE as cited by Mundo Deportivo.
“Between Joan Garcia and Ter Stegen, it’s very easy. Ter Stegen plays,” he stated, adding that “he’s the captain and a highly respected player at Barça.”
Doubling down on his stance, Rakitic further added: “If Marc is fit and healthy, there is no doubt. I wish all Barcelona’s problems were to choose between three great players.”
“Joan has a lot of talent, and he’s going to have to earn it. It’s one thing to play for a La Liga team and another to be Barcelona’s number one. I don’t see a better goalkeeper in Europe or in the world”.
