PSG Plot Raid On Barcelona For 26-Year-Old Backup Player To Replace Key Star

If Gianluigi Donnarumma leaves Parc des Princes during the summer transfer window, PSG is allegedly interested in signing 26-year-old Barcelona goalkeeper Inaki Pena.

According to Spanish publication Fichajes, Paris Saint-Germain is interested in signing Inaki Pena. The Ligue 1 champions are looking for a goalkeeper ahead of the summer transfer window, as Gianluigi Donnarumma’s long-term future remains unknown. So, Barcelona’s backup goalkeeper has emerged as a target for Les Parisiens.

Inaki Pena and his Barcelona teammate

Since joining FC Barcelona’s first team, Inaki Pena has had to wait his turn. The Spaniard was born in Alicante and spent his early years there, beginning his youth career at his hometown club, Alicante CF, before moving on to Villarreal for a few seasons. After joining Barcelona in 2012, he attended the legendary La Masia academy and graduated.

In his twelfth year at Barcelona, the 26-year-old has worked his way up the ranks. Pena, on the other hand, has yet to see consistent playing time with the first team, despite Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s months on the sidelines this season. While the academy graduate was previously the first choice goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny has surpassed him in the pecking order.

The Spanish goalkeeper has appeared roughly 50 times for Barcelona so far, maintaining 10 clean sheets and surrendering 64 goals. Meanwhile, Pena has an uncertain future at the Catalan club as he enters the final 18 months of his deal. The issue has sparked the interest of numerous well-known European clubs, notably Paris Saint-Germain.

Recent reports have linked Inaki Pena to Girona. If Gianluigi Donnarumma decides to leave Parc des Princes, PSG will try to outbid Barcelona for the goalkeeper’s services during the summer transfer window.

PSG’s long-term interest in Pena may materialize amid uncertainty about the Italian international’s future at the Ligue 1 side. The prospect to join Les Parisiens should appeal to the 26-year-old Spaniard, especially if they give Barcelona’s backup goalkeeper first-choice status.

However, PSG may not be the only well-known team interested in signing Pena, with AS reporting that Galatasaray will also make a move in the summer transfer window.
