The £100 million signing was key during City’s 2023 treble but struggled for game time throughout the 2024-25 season.

Grealish started just seven Premier League games, prompting City to leave him out of the squad traveling for pre-season in America.

Guardiola explained Grealish stayed behind to focus on fitness and rediscover the form that made him a star at Aston Villa.

He said the decision was mutual, allowing Grealish to train and find consistency, instead of being a squad member abroad.

Guardiola stressed that Grealish is still part of his plans if he proves himself ready to compete regularly again, reports Manchester Evening.

Despite his limited minutes, Guardiola rejected claims that Grealish had lost motivation, saying the player remains passionate about football.

He acknowledged Grealish’s recent struggles but insisted the midfielder must rediscover the hunger to play every few days again.

Guardiola added the competition for places at City is tough and every player must fight for their spot, including Grealish.

Though his future is uncertain, Grealish remains a Manchester City player and will be welcomed back if he stays.
