On August 28, Real Madrid learnt who their opponents in the UEFA Champions League’s first phase would be. Manchester City, one of the most remarkable teams, will be visiting the Santiago Bernabéu.
For the fifth year in a row, the Citizens will face Madrid, and the Premier League team’s head coach, Pep Guardiola, remarked about the draw on Thursday. In a press conference to preview City’s next Premier League game against Brighton, the Spaniard discussed meeting Real Madrid in the elite European championship once more.
Pep Guardiola’s Record When Visiting Real Madrid
Guardiola has made 25 visits to the Santiago Bernabéu as a manager, winning 13 of them, though his only win with City came in the first leg of the round of 16 (1-2) in the 2019-2020 UCL.
Subsequently, he was eliminated in 2022 (3-1), before the final in Paris, and he did not defeat the merengues in 2023 or 2024: first, there was a draw (1-1), which would later end with a resounding 4-0 in favour of the English at the Etihad; and the following year, there was another draw (3-3).

The previous precedent between Madrid and City was set last year. Carlo Ancelotti’s team won in Manchester (2-3), while Kylian Mbappé scored three goals in the second leg to defeat the skyblues (3-1).
Both clubs met in the playoffs after failing to finish among the top eight classed teams, preventing them from advancing directly to the round of 16. Reported By si.com News.
Real Madrid has a dismal record against Guardiola as manager, with only six victories in recent years. However, the Merengue team has been a nightmare for Manchester City’s head coach in recent meetings.
First, when at Bayern Munich, Madrid shone at the Allianz Arena with a masterclass (0-4) in 2014, and then with Manchester City, all three times in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
