Pep Guardiola Already Considering Liverpool Challenge Following Man City’s Shock Club World Cup loss

Following Manchester City’s exit from the Club World Cup, Pep Guardiola focused directly on the Premier League and battling Liverpool for the title.

The Blues were shocked to lose 4-3 to Al-Hilal in the last-16 round of a tournament that many had dubbed as the start of City’s return to the top flight. The Blues were the only team to finish the group stage with a perfect record, and they put on an outstanding performance to defeat Juventus 5-2.

After such a disastrous 2024/25 season, many perceived improved performances, the return of Rodri, and the swift integration of four summer acquisitions as potential signals that Guardiola’s team is ready to fight for silverware once more. Reported By Liverpool News.

However, the defeat against Al-Hilal highlighted the same weaknesses that plagued City throughout the previous year, with the Saudi side routinely cutting the squad open and attacking on the break. Speaking after the game, Guardiola stated that he is already thinking about the new season and seeking to reclaim the Premier League title from Liverpool.

“What a pity,” he replied. “We’d gone on an amazing adventure together and were in a fantastic position. The vibe was great.

“I can’t thank the guys enough for their training and performance.

“However, it was a challenging game. The margins were small. We created a lot, and [Yassine] Bounou made fantastic saves, but we were so open.

“We would have liked to have continued; it will only happen every four years, and we had a feeling the team was performing well.

“We have a big squad and we’ll see what happens. Now it is tough but we come back in the next days, rest, and start the Premier League.”
