Partey Granted Conditional Bail After Appearing In Court On Rape Charges

Former Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey has reportedly been granted a conditional bail after appearing in a court hearing on rape and sexual assault charges.

The five charges pertain to three women and the offences are claimed to have taken place between 2021 and 2022. Partey denies all the allegations against him.

Less than 15 minutes were spent in Tuesday’s hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. According to Sky Sports, Partey was simply asked to understand the charges and the terms of his bail before being asked to enter a plea.

The trial in Partey’s case has now been moved to a Crown Court. On September 2, he is scheduled to appear in court at the Old Bailey.

Although he was not named at the time of his initial arrest in July 2022, the 32-year-old kept playing for Arsenal while the investigation was being conducted.

In a statement after he was charged, Partey’s lawyer Jenny Wiltshire of Hickman and Rose, said: “Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him.

The Ghana international played for Arsenal for five seasons after being signed for £45 million in 2020 before his contract expired at the end of Junemaking him free agent.

Last season, he made 52 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions.

“He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”

A woman is the subject of two rape charges, another of three rape charges, and a third of one sexual assault charge.
