Florian Wirtz is expected to excel at Anfield this season and overcome the strain of his £116 million price tag, according to former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.
For an initial payment of £100 million, the German joined from Bayer Leverkusen in June, with the possibility of add-ons totaling £16 million.
Wirtz’s deal to Merseyside will be the costliest in Premier League history if he and Liverpool are able to fulfill all those extra terms.
Despite his relative inexperience at 22, Lucas doesn’t believe this will affect Wirtz.

Having shared a dressing room with Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez, and Fernando Torres—all of whom came for hefty fees when he was playing—the former Red can offer some perspective.
Lucas thinks the fact that Wirtz has already overcome obstacles at the club and international levels will benefit the new signing.
“Of course, the price tag, it always comes with big expectations but I think he has shown that he is capable of doing that and he won the league, the cup and he has good experience as a national team player, so I think he is arriving in a team that is very well organised, which will just give him the freedom to express himself,” the 38-year-old told the Liverpool ECHO in Hong Kong.
“I have seen him a bit, not much, but I think he is a midfielder who can score goals, can assist and link up with the strikers.
“We don’t know the system that Arne [Slot] will probably play, but I think he will add something different to the players we have in midfield.”
