If the first fortnight of January taught the football world anything, it was to expect the unexpected.
So far, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been tight-lipped about any potential transfers this month. The Gunners are competing on four fronts, including the first leg of their League Cup semi-final against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
However, in the background, north Londoners are being linked to football stars from across Europe and around the world. They may even be able to capitalise on Real Madrid’s instability following Xabi Alonso’s unexpected departure. Here’s the most recent transfer news from the Emirates.
Real Madrid star is set to make a move
According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Arsenal is looking into signing Real Madrid youngster Arda Guler.

According to the Mirror, the young Turkish midfielder played a significant role under Alonso before the former Bayer Leverkusen boss left the club following the Super Copa final defeat to Barcelona.
Guler did not trust Carlo Ancelotti as much as he did Alonso. Now that the former Liverpool midfielder has departed the Bernabeu, it’s been said that the 20-year-old star is waiting to see what his role will be under new manager Alvaro Arbeloa, who formerly managed the Spanish giants’ reserve squad.
In the midst of all this, Arsenal are reportedly considering a bid for him. If Arbeloa decides not to rely heavily on Guler, Arteta’s team might be in a strong position to recruit one of Europe’s most promising young prospects, with whom they have previously been associated.
