Michael Carrick Set To Lead Man United With Familiar Backroom Team

Michael Carrick is poised to take over as Manchester United’s interim manager following the sacking of Ruben Amorim earlier this month.

The former England midfielder, 44, was spotted arriving at Carrington on Tuesday morning, signalling his imminent appointment.

Carrick reportedly edged out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the role and is expected to stay in charge until the end of the season, reports Daily Star.

He will be joined by familiar faces, including Steve Holland, Gareth Southgate’s former assistant with England.

Holland, who has previously held coaching roles at Crewe Alexandra and Yokohama F. Marinos, will serve as Carrick’s right-hand man at Old Trafford.

Jonathan Woodgate, remembered for his playing days at Leeds and brief Real Madrid stint, will also join. He worked with Carrick at Middlesbrough, helping the team avoid relegation and reach the Championship play-offs.

United legend Jonny Evans and long-serving youth coach Travis Binnion complete the backroom team. Caretaker Darren Fletcher opted to return to the U18s after guiding the first team in the interim.

Carrick Inherits Struggling Side

Carrick will take charge just in time for Saturday’s Manchester derby. United currently sit seventh in the Premier League, having slipped in recent weeks.

The Red Devils are also out of the FA Cup after a shock defeat to Brighton and have drawn their last three league games, leaving them trailing leaders Arsenal.

Carrick faces the immediate challenge of stabilising the squad while trying to restore confidence ahead of key fixtures in the run-in.
