Lionel Messi has reportedly made it apparent that he is committed to participating in the FC Barcelona presidential elections next year in some form.
The former Barca captain is thinking of supporting one of the contenders in an effort to remove incumbent Joan Laporta, even though he will not run for president himself.
The Inter Miami forward won’t support any candidate, though. He will only intervene if he believes there is a reasonable likelihood of success.
It is anticipated that Barcelona will host elections in 2026 between March 15 and June 15.

According to Barca Universal, Laporta has already declared his intention to seek reelection, but Messi has emerged as an unexpected opponent.
The Argentine publicly backed Laporta four and a half years ago, even going to vote in person with his son Thiago. But things seem completely different this time. Messi might be crucial in keeping the present president from taking office again.
According to the report, Messi still remembers how he was compelled to leave Barcelona. The extension of the Argentine’s contract, which was already agreed upon and awaiting signature, was indeed one of Laporta’s primary political pledges in 2021.
Messi and his family perceived Laporta’s turnaround as a betrayal, and the club’s financial issues later blocked the extension. As a result, their relationship is totally destroyed.
The report further claims that a number of individuals related to Barcelona have contacted Messi to inquire about his interest in participating in the next elections. In response, he stated that while he does not rule it out, Laporta will not be the selected candidate.
