With those goals, Messi became the first player in MLS history to score multiple goals in four straight regular-season matches.
The record streak began before Miami’s Club World Cup campaign, with braces against CF Montréal and the Columbus Crew.
After returning to MLS, Messi struck twice again against Montréal, then repeated the feat at Gillette Stadium Wednesday night.
That gives Messi an incredible eight goals in his last four matches, bringing his season total to 14 goals and seven assists.
Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano said, “Leo is a special player – for me, the best to ever play this sport.”
Mascherano added, “It’s unbelievable he keeps doing things we’ve never seen before. We’re lucky to have him at Miami.”
Messi now holds Miami’s all-time goal contribution record (58), and league marks for most assists (5) and contributions (6) in one game.
His performances have fueled a five-match unbeaten streak for Miami, who are climbing the Eastern Conference standings with games in hand, reports MLS Soccer.
With Messi, Busquets, Suárez, and Alba reunited, Miami are strong contenders for a second straight Supporters’ Shield this season.
