Maresca ‘Not Happy’ With Major Decision On Chelsea Ahead Of Conference League Final

Enzo Maresca is reportedly not happy with the limited time available to Chelsea ahead of their UEFA Conference League final clash against Real Betis.

Chelsea end their Premier League campaign on Sunday, three days before the Conference League final in Wroclaw, Poland against Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, Betis will play their last La Liga game on Friday against Valencia.

At the City Ground, both teams are vying for Champions League qualification, making it a crucial match for the Blues as well.

“I´m not happy, 100%,” Maresca said on Tuesday at a news conference as reported by the Daily Mail.

“You cannot allow a team 48 hours more than the other team when you play a European competition final.”

The Conference League’s organizer, UEFA, has no control over the scheduling of games in domestic league competitions.

The Premier League wants all of its games in the last round to go place at the same time, therefore Chelsea will not be able to move their match against Forest to Friday.

So Maresca has another idea.

“Or they (Betis) play Sunday like us,” he said with a smile.

On Wednesday, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United square off in the Europa League final.

On Friday night, the two teams played their most recent Premier League games against Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively.
