Manchester United Confirm Benjamin Sesko Shirt Number After £66.4m Transfer

Manchester United’s new signing Benjamin Sesko will wear the No.30 shirt during his first season at Old Trafford.

The Slovenia international signed for United last week for an initial cost of £66.4 million from RB Leipzig. He has signed a five-year contract.

Sesko, who scored 21 goals in all competitions for Leipzig last season, was unveiled to United fans ahead of Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Fiorentina at Old Trafford. He practiced with his new teammates for the first time on Sunday.

United had made buying a striker a top priority this summer, and after failing to get Liam Delap and finding that Viktor Gyokeres intended to join Arsenal, Sesko was suggested as an alternative. He was on United’s radar in 2022.

Sesko has been given the No.30 shirt ahead of his potential United debut against Arsenal on Sunday, indicating that he is continuing a personal tradition. He wore the number during his tenure at Leipzig and his previous club, Red Bull Salzburg.

He is the first United player to wear the No.30 shirt since former goalie Nathan Bishop in 2022/23. Previous occupants include Matteo Darmian, Ritchie De Laet, and John O’Shea.

Sesko told club reporters about his goals for the upcoming season: “Just that we get better, that we connect together in general, and we, as a team, just try to grow, to grow together step by step because we’re getting better.”

“We’re just even more complete and whole. It’s only a matter of time before we can fly high again.”
