Manchester United Competes With Arsenal And Tottenham To Sign McTominay

According to Caught Offside, Manchester United is battling Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Napoli star Scott McTominay.

Since arriving to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium from the Red Devils, the Scotland international has had a successful 18 months, winning a Serie A title and a Supercoppa Italiana.

He scored 17 goals in 36 games across all competitions, becoming Serie A’s best player last season. This season, the midfielder has continued to deliver great performances, scoring five goals and assisting three times in 24 appearances across all competitions.

He has been steering Antonio Conte’s side to another title drive this season, with the club trailing league leader Inter Milan by only two points.

Caught Offside now claims that Manchester United regret letting their academy graduate leave and are ‘dreaming’ of getting him back to Old Trafford next year.

Napoli is adamantly opposed to allowing him to depart in January, as his current contract expires in 2028. United would have to make an incredible offer to persuade the Italian champions to change their mind, and they refuse to listen to any offer less than £60 million.

According to reports, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Newcastle United are also interested in McTominay.

Battle

Thomas Frank wants to add physical presence in midfield as well as goals, therefore Spurs have entered the competition to acquire McTominay. Arsenal, on the other hand, sees the Scotsman as a depth addition to the engine room rather than a regular starter.

McTominay is a versatile player who can play in both the double midfield pivot role and the No.10 position. But he excels as a box-to-box midfielder.

The 29-year-old, who stands 6 feet 3 inches tall, is dynamic, strong, and good in the air. He also works hard without possession. He is currently in the prime of his career and may be a wise addition to Manchester United, Arsenal, or Tottenham if any of those clubs sign him.

However, it will be intriguing to see if the Old Trafford club, the Gunners, or the Lilywhites make a serious effort to obtain his services in January or next summer.
