Manchester United fans will have to wait another fortnight to see new acquisition Matheus Cunha in a red shirt. The Red Devils confirmed on Sunday that they have agreed to sign Cunha from Wolves, paying his £62.5 million release clause to make the Brazilian their first signing of the summer transfer season.
Cunha, 26, has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2030. There is also an opportunity to prolong his stay for another 12 months.
Supporters noted, however, that United’s announcement was relatively low-key. The Red Devils did not release any photographs of Cunha, nor did they provide any statements from manager Ruben Amorim or any figure at Old Trafford.

Instead, a brief statement was put on the club’s website, confirming Cunha’s much anticipated arrival as’subject to visa and registration’. “Manchester United has reached agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha,” reads the headline. Reported by Mirror.
“The Brazilian forward’s deal is contingent upon visa and registration. The 26-year-old has 13 senior caps for Brazil and has made 270 club appearances and scored 72 goals in the English, Spanish, German, and Swiss top divisions.
It is anticipated that United will complete the signing of Cunha and reveal him after the international break, which begins this week. The attacker has been called up to play for Brazil, who face Ecuador and Paraguay in the coming fortnight under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.
