Man United Striker Pens New Contract

Historic Manchester United academy graduate, Ethan Wheatley has reportedly signed a new contract at the club.

According to Manchester Evening News, the striker, who is now on loan at Walsall, League Two’s table-toppers, has agreed to a contract that would keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2028, with a one-year extension option.

Wheatley, 19, became United’s 250th academy graduate to make his first-team debut last season after joining the club at the age of nine.

In the Reds’ 4-2 victory over Sheffield United at Old Trafford last April, he made his bow as a late substitute.

Since then, he has played three more games for United, most recently coming off the bench in the team’s 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup’s fourth round earlier this season.

On penning a new deal at Old Trafford, Wheatley posted on his Instagram page: “Amazing feeling to have signed a new deal with this great club. Another proud moment for me and my family.”

In January, Wheatley signed a temporary contract to leave Old Trafford and spend the rest of the season on loan at Walsall. It was his career’s first loan stint.

He has only made three appearances at Bescot Stadium thus far, though, as he has battled for consistent opportunities. It has been over a month since he was last part of a matchday squad.

Some of the new players that Walsall brought in during the January transfer window have had difficulty fitting into manager Mat Sadler’s plans.
