Man United Social Media Post Returns To Haunt Them In Newcastle Defeat

Football has a funny way of haunting you, and on Wednesday night at St. James’ Park, it did so once more, 12 years after Manchester United tweeted something really harmless.

Newcastle United defeated the Red Devils 2-1 despite being down to 10 players, maintaining their hopes of making it to European competition next season.

Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle the lead from the penalty spot after Jacob Ramsey was controversially sent off for a second yellow card. Just before halftime, Casemiro restored parity for United.

However, Will Osula’s incredible goal in the 90th minute sealed the three points. After leaving Tyrell Malacia for dead with a step-over, he whipped the ball left-footed around Harry Maguire and past a defenceless Senne Lammens in the Manchester United goal.

Osula Has An History With Man United

The Magpies supporters on the terraces were ecstatic, and it has now come to light that United were aware of the Danish forward’s abilities 12 years prior.

In November 2014, Osula won the MU Soccer Schools World Skills Final on the Old Trafford pitch. Manchester United icons Bryan Robson and Gary Pallister gave him his award.

The post exploded on X overnight, with even Newcastle United’s official account poking fun at their rivals by quoting the post with the caption: ‘Time flies’.

Osula scored his second goal in the Premier League after coming off the bench with Newcastle down to 10 men. It was his fourth goal of the season in all competitions.

After blossoming against Michael Carrick’s team, the 22-year-old has established his claim for increased involvement with big games in the FA Cup, Premier League, and Champions League coming up.
