Manchester United are in desperate need of a striker following a disastrous season in the Premier League under both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim – however, despite suggestions linking them with the signing of Viktor Gyokeres, they should be looking at a different striker who has flourished in Europe.
Last season, United scored just 44 goals in the Premier League, with Everton and the three relegated clubs being the only teams to be less prolific in the final third. This has led Amorim to look for a new striker on the transfer market, and while they have signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, additional firepower will be required in the coming weeks.
Manchester United should consider moving Jonathan David instead of Gyokeres.
Chelsea hijacked a deal for Liam Delap, with the Ipswich Town player deciding to transfer to Stamford Bridge rather than Old Trafford for a £30 million sum, leaving United looking for another forward.

Gyokeres has been linked following his two outstanding seasons at Sporting, one of which was directly under Amorim’s supervision as Sporting won the Primeira Liga for the second time with the Red Devils manager in charge. However, with the Swedish star potentially costing more than £60 million, United should turn down a move and instead target Lille star Jonathan David, who is likely to leave on a free transfer in the coming weeks.
David joined the French club from Belgian club Gent in 2020, having scored 30 goals in 60 games for the one-time Pro League winners, and his form has continued during his stay in Ligue 1, with 109 goals in 232 games across all competitions. According to GivemeSport.
The Canada international, dubbed ‘one of the best strikers in the world’ and “in Europe,” has been a consistent scorer in league competitions throughout his career, never scoring fewer than 12 goals in a single league campaign for Gent and 13 for Lille, including a career-best 24 for Lille in the 2022/23 season.
That, combined with 34 goals for Canada in just 62 games, means that the Brooklyn-born striker has been a fantastic signing for both clubs since arriving to Europe at age 18.
