John McGinn could make a comeback to the matchday squad for Aston Villa ahead of Sunday’s trip to Manchester United, according to head coach Unai Emery.
McGinn sustained a knee injury during the January 1-0 loss to Everton. Before suffering the injury, the midfield player had played in every Premier League game for Villa this season.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Emery announced McGinn was back in full training and eligible to play ahead of their Europa League round of 16 first leg matchup with Lille tonight.
McGinn Returns To Villa Following Injury Layoff
“He’s here [in Lille]. It’s important but every player is important,” the Villa head coach said. “Maybe as a captain, as well, he is adding something more, and he is coming back.

Given his team’s performance without the captain, Emery will be thrilled to see McGinn return. During McGinn’s absence, Villa have only won twice in the Premier League.
After an extended gap between games, United will be hopeful that some of their injured players return. Despite missing since the beginning of February due to a knock, Mason Mount is seen to be recovering more quickly than Matthijs de Ligt.
Since last year’s victory at Crystal Palace, De Ligt has struggled with a back injury. Lisandro Martinez has not yet resumed full training due to a calf problem. Patrick Dorgu is out as well.
