Man United Prepare January Exit For Long Term ‘Flop’

Manchester United have made a significant breakthrough in their efforts to offload Joshua Zirkzee during the January transfer window, with AS Roma emerging as the leading destination.

The Dutch forward has been frozen out at Old Trafford, and United are now fully prepared to sanction his departure this month as they reshape their squad.

Reports indicate that Roma have received fresh assurances that Zirkzee remains available, despite recent managerial changes at Manchester United causing brief uncertainty.

The Serie A side had already reached an informal loan agreement with United before Ruben Amorim’s exit, raising doubts over whether negotiations would continue, reports National World.

However, talks resumed earlier this week, and Roma are increasingly confident that the deal can be completed before the window closes.

Zirkzee is open to a return to Italy after enjoying a productive spell with Bologna, where he established himself as one of Serie A’s most promising attackers.

Roma push for permanent move as United remain flexible

Roma would ideally prefer a permanent transfer, but a loan deal with an option to buy is currently viewed as the most realistic solution.

United are understood to be flexible on terms, prioritising the player’s exit rather than reintegrating him into the squad.

Roma had already anticipated delays due to Manchester United’s AFCON commitments, meaning their overall transfer strategy remains unchanged.

Zirkzee joined United in the summer of 2024 on a long-term deal running until 2029, with an optional extra year.

The 24-year-old has made 64 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring nine goals and providing four assists across all competitions.
